I caught the very end of Carl Chinn’s radio show about Chance Glass. My grandfather George Boswell who died in the late 1960’s started working for Chance Glass in their Oldbury factory. It’s only recently that I realised there was an Oldbury factory! My mother Marion Daniels nee Boswell recounts the day my grandfather was witness to the blowing of the tube for one of first TV set ever produced. Also when later he worked at Smethwick he was in a building during the second world war when it was bombed by the Germans. Apparently he was lucky to survive this. My mother still has my grand fathers long service certificate and a bag of differant coloured glasses which he termed as his ‘bag of gold’ apparenty he used these to make the differant colour glass as required.

Do you have any information either on the Oldbury factory or on my Grand father who started working for Chance around the turn of the century and retired shortly after the second world war. You said in the interview with Carl Chinn that many workers were second or third generation, again I understand that his father also worked for chance’s glass. Thankyou in anticipation for your reply.

Regards Pete Daniels

Enjoyed the show - very informative. The one young man had a wonderful voice, he should do TV voice overs. That Rich fella was alright to I suppose.
